Your Washington excise return

Before your first return

In Taxes → Settings, enter your Washington account details and filing frequency (monthly, quarterly or annual), and give each product or service its B&O classification in Invoices → Products & services.

Each period

  1. In Taxes → WA excise returns, find the period and choose Prepare. RiverBooks builds the lines from your invoices: gross income by B&O classification, sales tax by location code, deductions, and the small business B&O credit.
  2. Review every line. You can adjust or add lines. Things you bought for the business without paying Washington sales tax go in Taxes → Use tax.
  3. Download the My DOR file, sign in to My DOR, and upload it (or type the figures in). Submit and pay there.
  4. Back in RiverBooks, mark the return filed and record the payment, so the sales tax you collected is cleared from your books.

RiverBooks never files or pays for you.

Rates

Sales tax is charged at the rate for where the customer receives the service or goods. RiverBooks looks up the Department of Revenue location code for each job address and keeps DOR’s rate tables current each quarter.
